Let’s make some norwegian waffles today πŸ˜Š

Hi ❣Its so nice to see you,- like always 😊 I hope all is fine with you πŸ’›

Its weekend and a bit more time for make a bit different #food then I have time for during the weeks. But still #easy and #tasty food. If we can call #norwegian #waffles for food 😊.

Its food, but more in the coffee and cake- area 😊. Sweet food, a kind of #cake 😊.

I remember my mammi did made waffels in the weekends during the winter-time, not every weekend, but very often 😊. But the most #cozy I do remember was when she did made waffles outside during the #summertime, and then it was not necessery to be in the weekend- it was just summer, and it could be waffles in the daytime or afternoon β˜€οΈ.

With an extension cord through my dad’s “studio” and down to the patio, the waffle-iron and waffle batter placed on the patio table, she #fried waffles.

It was only to eat fresh, warm waffles when they was ready, and almost straight from the #waffleiron. We had to wait a bit, they were hot, but it didn’t take many minutes until me and my sisters ate warm and #fresh waffles with butter and either with #browncheese, #jam or #sugar and #cinnamon. Brown cheese is a #norwegian #cheese,- and the norwegian name is “#brunost”. I really like that cheese,- and if I m lucky I can manage to find it in the Scandinavia store here in the area.

We actually have two Scandinavia stores in the area that sells different kinds of food from Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

Any way,- I do like waffles and I did like this “#weekend-#tradition” during the winter-time to made waffles, but I did even more like the “summer-tradition” when my mammi made waffles outside in the sun no matter what day it was,- it was just summer, sun and time to enjoy the days outside. You know,- its doesnt happen so often in Norway then here in Spain,- the possibility to spend a lots of days outside during the summertime 😊.

I have tried to bring my mammi’s “waffles-tradition” with me and to my family. I make waffles now and then,- probably more when we did live in Norway then here in Spain. But still I make waffles to my #children and me, summer as winter, inside as outside 😊. Im just not so effective as my #mammi 😊.

Waffles are eaten all over the #world, and are #available in #various #varieties. Thick and and square or thin and heart shaped. But nobody can eat more waffles than we Norwegians? We use waffles for both everyday and party, inside and out.

Its actually a #culture #history behind waffles too,- like it are with many different #food- #traditions and #recipes 😊. Waffles have even their own “#waffleday”,- and in #Europe its the 25. March. The #Americans waffle-day are 24. August because that day Cornelius Swarthhout did get the patent on the waffle-iron. He is the creater behind the waffle-iron and made the first “real” one in 1869.

European celebrate the waffle-day 25. March because the Christian #religion belives that Maria got the messege from God this day that she was pregnant with her/ the son Jesus Christ. You know,- its 9 months between 25. March to 25. December 😊.

Norwegians have sailor churches in different parts of the world, and waffles are a well-known trademark of Norwegian sailor churches.

So lets try to #make some norwegian waffles to day 😊

The #recipe for norwegian waffles ( enough to ca 10 waffle-heart-plates)

3 eggs,

3/4 cup sugar,

1 cup cream,

1/2 teaspoon baking soda, (and I also use 1/2 teaspoon baking powder)

4 dl milk, or water

5 dl wheat flour,

1 dl melted butter, 2 teaspoon vanilla sugar and 1 / 2 tsp cinnamon.

Mix the eggs and milk ( or water) together.

Mix the other “dry” ingredients together.

Mix it all together, also the butter.

Let the waffle- mix “stand by” for around 30 min. in room-temp. before you take it into in fridge for a while. Maybe even to next day. Or just make them to day if you want 😊. I think tge waffles get better as longer as they are in the fridge- but we like it differently 😊.

If you want to have slightly #crispy waffles you make the waffle batter a little thicker.

Ps- fry on medium heat in the frying pan/ waffle-iron until they are about golden brown 😊.

Serve with butter and brown cheese, jam or sugar, cinnamon or sour cream. Serve simply with what you like.

I hope you will enjoy this waffles as much as we do 😊. Tasty and sweet, crispy or soft,- the choices are yours 😊.

I wish you a great day or evening wherever in the world you are πŸ’›. Thank you so much for dropping by today too,- and for reading my blog πŸ’›
